In 1964, the Oceana County Board of Supervisors dedicated a new 53-bed facility, offering skilled professional nursing care to residents of Oceana County. On Nov. 1, 1976, a 60-bed addition was added to meet increased demands. On March 30, 2005, the facility added 18 beds for the care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In addition we added a Medicare Certified Outpatient Therapy Rehabilitation Agency, complete with a therapy pool, for those who need therapy outside of our patient population. Today, the Medical Care Facility has 115 skilled nursing beds, and serves primarily citizens in the community as need arises, providing therapy, restorative and skilled nursing care, and social service assistance. The entire staff is dedicated to the philosophy of providing the best skilled nurse care possible and to rehabilitate the resident to their greatest level of independence without regard to financial status, social position, race, or creed. The medical care of every resident is under the direction of the family physician and our Medical Director. Under the supervision of our Director of Nursing, physician's orders are carried out by our licensed professional staff. All formal Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy is ordered by a physician and carried out under the direction of our Registered Therapists. Activities include arts and crafts, group games, music, movies, social hours, picnics, and many other activities. We are especially proud of our botanical activities, with staff and residents alike involved in the care of flowers, plants, and trees. The services of full time Social Workers are also available to provide assistance and support to residents and their families.
