The session will cover the current state of the reimbursement environment for Medicaid, Medicare, and Managed Care and provide information that will assist facility operators and administrators with navigating current environment, the future state of reimbursement, and help them achieve financial success now and into the future.
Jon Lanczak, MBA is a Principal with the healthcare strategy & operations group at Plante Moran. He concentrates on third party reimbursement matters for multiple provider types but mostly for post-acute care skilled nursing providers operating in the State of Michigan and has spent a significant amount of time researching the emerging trends in the healthcare industry and more specifically the post-acute care sector. He prepares Medicaid and Medicare cost reports for numerous providers in Michigan and has assisted providers with strategic planning, operational improvement, and a variety of other areas.
Victoria Thompson is a Manager in the Healthcare Strategy & Operations management consulting group and serves clients with a variety of reimbursement issues including cost report preparation, Medicaid audits, and other reimbursement analyses.
Provide a background related to GASB 87, Leases. Participants will learn requirements and implementation strategies for the required accounting change.
Nick Maeder is a member of Plante Moran’s Healthcare Industry Group and has more than fourteen years of public accounting experience. He has provided assurance and consulting services to the healthcare industry with a background that includes serving Michigan Medical Care Facilities; large, integrated, multi- hospital systems; community hospitals; post-acute care providers; and continuing care retirement communities. He has an extensive reimbursement background, helping senior care and living clients; sole community; and critical access hospitals.
The skilled nursing and long-term care industry is in full on recovery mode, and it is more important than ever for providers to take a deeper look into their operations to find ways to control costs, optimize reimbursement, find their place in the market, and look for ways to differentiate themselves from their competition. This session will provide attendees with some ideas and tools for improving operations from both a financial and quality perspective.
Robert Long has over 28 years of experience serving clients in the senior living and care industry through consulting, reimbursement, and assurance services. He has consulted with clients in areas such as reimbursement strategy and analysis, project financial feasibility, debt financing support, acquisition consultation, and due diligence support services. Rob has also worked in the industry as a chief financial officer. He is a member of the AICPA, the MICPA, Health Care Association of Michigan, and LeadingAge Michigan. He received his B.S. in accounting from Michigan State University.

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. This session will provide general information regarding bonuses and how employee bonus payments can help attract and retain qualified medical care facility staff. In this session the learner will gain knowledge as to what is a “bonus”, the different types of bonuses, and how the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) rules pertain to bonus payments.
Steve Girard, JD has been representing public and private employers in their labor and employment relations matters since 1987. Steve specializes in representing health care employers and has been General Counsel to the Michigan County Medical Care Facility Council for over 20 years.

Aric Martin serves as ROLF’s Managing Partner and Chief Innovation Officer. He is in charge of the firm’s overall strategic direction. He concentrates his legal practice in the representation of long-term care, post-acute, and senior living providers in a wide range of regulatory, transactional, litigation, operational, governmental investigation, and strategic matters. In addition, he runs Evolve Legal Solutions, the firm’s innovation lab and legal software division. Aric joined ROLF in 1995 and became the Managing Partner in 2007.
Margaret Chamberlain is a partner with ROLF and focuses her practice in the areas of health care regulatory compliance, including interfacing with state and federal regulatory agencies, state and federal enforcement appeals, developing corporate compliance programs, State Attorney General licensing and/or criminal investigations, Medicare and Medicaid civil and criminal fraud concerns, and professional licensing. Prior to beginning her legal career over 24 years ago, Margaret was a social worker who provided services in several skilled nursing facilities. Margaret joined ROLF in 2017.
Kally Goodwin-Ratzloff is a partner at ROLF. She focuses her practice on regulatory issues for long-term care, post-acute and senior living providers. Her experience includes survey and enforcement appeals; counseling clients in compliance matters; defending clients undergoing federal and state investigations involving such issues as Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and Stark Law allegations; investigating and responding to HIPAA data breaches and security incidents; and advising clients on fair housing laws. Prior to attending law school, Kally worked for a licensed assisted living provider in Michigan. She joined ROLF in 2021.

Megan Schaefer has five years of experience in public accounting and healthcare consulting. Focusing on the healthcare industry, she has served entities structured in a variety of fashions including multi-hospital heath systems, community hospitals, and long-term care facilities. Megan has assisted clients through Medicaid and Medicare compliance issues, including cost report filings and providing reimbursement maximization strategies regarding continuing changes in healthcare reimbursement regulations. Megan holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan – Flint and Northwood University, respectively.
Under PDPM, some providers looked to move away from contract therapy companies and attempt to run therapy programs as an "in-house" model. This session will compare those two models by someone who completely understands the financial and clinical impact of both. Using actual data collected from Michigan facilities over the past two years, John will reveal which of these models actually delivers the best results in all areas and what are the significant financial risks of each.
John M. Delossantos has 25 years of experience in skilled nursing facilities. He held the position for Regional Vice President for more than 15 years with the largest contract therapy company in the United States. After leaving contract therapy, he started his own company named JMD Healthcare almost two years ago to assist providers with both PDPM reimbursement and therapy management. John is a Registered Occupational Therapist, an APPACN Certified Resident Assessment Coordinator and Section GG Trainer. He holds an MBA with a healthcare focus. He sits on the advisory board for three Indiana colleges and is an approved GOA Medicare Auditor for the U.S. Department of Justice and The Office of Inspector General.
